Student ID card

The Student ID card (Studierendenausweis) identifies you as a student at the TU Berlin. It comprise your student card and the student's public transportation pass (integrated semester ticket, so-called “fahrcard” of the Verkehrsverbund Berlin-Brandenburg). Your enrollment status can be verified via the QR code on your card. You also use the card as a key to access University facilities.

How can I get my Student ID card?

Before your Student ID card can be produced, you have to complete your online registration in the TU Student's Portal. In case of enrollment you will receive an e-mail with further instruction how to set up your Portal. Upload a suitable photo of yourself for identification purposes on your Student ID card. Please use a photo with neutral background.

Your ID card will be send via mail to your home address within a few days. Please note: A delivery outside of Germany is not possible. If you have stated a foreign address you must visit our Campus Center  to pick up your student ID card upon presentation of a valid Identity Card or Passport (digital copies of your Identity Card or passport are insufficient).

Special case:

If you have been re-enrolled at TU Berlin and if you have returned your former student ID card after the termination of your enrollement, you can use the Online Self-Service, if your tubIT-account is still activated.

Handle your Student ID card careful

Please handle your Student ID card with care. Should you damage it by laminating, hole-punching, bending, breaking, etc., you will be charged with a replacement fee of 16,00 euros.

If I need a new card

Online Self-service for a new Student ID Card

You are eligible to request your new Student ID Card via online Self-Service (student portal).

Log-in to www.tu-berlin.de, then navigate to "Persönliche Daten" >> "Mein Profil" >> "Ersatzkarte beantragen".

If you are student and employee: Log-in to www.tu-berlin.de, then navigate to "Persönliche Daten" >> "Mein Profil" >> choose "Student" >> "Ersatzkarte beantragen".

Upload a suitable photo of yourself for identification purposes on your Student ID Card. Please use a photo with neutral background.

You can pick up your new card within two days from receipt of order at our Campus Center.

Charge and payments

In case of substitution or new order: 16,00 €

  • defect
  • theft or losing
  • disabled
  • re-enrollment at TU Berlin (if you have not returned your card before)
  • not received, because your are moved and the new address was not known at TU Berlin

Payment options:

  • pay machine (TU main building)
  • remittance or
  • TU Berlin Pay Office

Pick up at Campus Center (do not forget the voucher for payment)

Please submit the following documents:

  • Passport or Identity Card (no copies)
  • Voucher for payment (16,00 €)
  • Your Student ID card (in case of substitution)

You can pick up your card during the opening hours of our Campus Center (Room 0030, TU main building). 

I think my student ID might not be working

What should I do?

If your Semesterticket could not be read electronically during an inspection, you will receive a receipt with a transaction number from the respective transportation company. Your student ID will not be confiscated.

 

Please go in person to the Office of Student Affairs at TU Berlin as soon as possible (within one week). The card issuing office will first check to see that your card is working properly. Should your card be defective, you will be issued a new card free of charge. Please bring your current card plus the receipt from the transportation company with the transaction number with you.

 

You yourself are required to provide proof of a valid ticket to the transportation company within two weeks. As a rule, you will need to present a photo of your newly issued student ID as well as your current enrollment certificate when doing so. TU Berlin will not contact the transportation company on your behalf. Please see here for relevant contact forms.

Other transportation companies: Other transportation companies do not provide contact forms for this issue. Please use general contact forms, or email addresses and other contact options provided. Please see the websites of the relevant transportation companies for further details.

Return

In case of termination of enrollment you have to return your Student ID card to TU Berlin - via mail or at our Campus Center.
